Dr. Chayanit Phulyarat, a lecturer at the Faculty of Political Science, Thammasat University (TU), revealed that one of the reasons for the conflict in the southern border provinces erupting in the past 1-2 weeks may be due to the disruption of the peace negotiation process, which has been at a standstill for almost a year.
Data from the Deep South Watch Center clearly indicates that since the beginning of the peace negotiation process in 2013, the statistics of unrest have significantly decreased. This is because the peace negotiation process provides a platform for conflicting parties to negotiate, exchange information and help build trust with each other in order to prevent violence from occurring.
